MobiX mobile clinic brings mammography screenings closer to patients – Innomentarium’s innovation turns one

The MobiX mobile clinic, developed by Innomentarium, has now been serving mammography screenings for one year across the ELOISA, Kainuu, and Häme wellbeing services counties in Finland.

MobiX is a modular mobile solution that brings imaging services closer to patients, significantly reducing the need for travel. Screenings can be carried out at local service points such as senior centers, eliminating the need for patients to travel to central hospitals or large imaging units.

The clinic includes all stages of imaging – including follow-up examinations – and operates fully independently. Patients do not need to transfer to another unit for additional tests, and healthcare staff are not required to arrange separate transportation or facilities. This makes screenings smoother, more agile, and more accessible – especially in areas where distances are long or mobility is limited.

Everyday impact – how MobiX works in practice according to nurses and patients

MobiX is more than just a technical innovation – it’s a practical solution that improves everyday healthcare. Nurses and patients working with the mobile clinic have experienced real benefits and convenience during screening visits. Radiographer Irma from Pieksämäki describes the clinic’s functionality:

“The interior is surprisingly spacious – although the clinic looks small from the outside, it offers enough room for follow-up examinations without external arrangements.”

Team members Jaana and Minna highlight the flexibility in organizing work and managing schedules, which makes daily operations smoother and enhances the patient experience.

M.D. radiology Sari Juntunen talks about her experiences working as a radiologist in a clinic:

“From a radiologist’s perspective, the clinic works very well. We are in the same room, the client, the radiologist and the doctor, the communication is seamless and really fast. The examination is very fast because there is no need to change rooms and the information is not interrupted in between.”

Patients have also shared positive feedback:

“This space feels even larger than the big trucks – excellent service close to home.” – Tuula from Pieksämäki

“Everything went smoothly, I’ll definitely come again.” – Päivi from Pieksämäki

“The reception was wonderfully gentle and the staff very professional.” – Pirjo from Pieksämäki

“A pleasant place and a great machine – grateful to have screenings so nearby.” – Tarja from Pieksämäki

“A better experience than the old truck-trailer.” – Ira from Pieksämäki

“Spacious interior, no anxiety; the staff was truly friendly.” – Anu from Pieksämäki

One customer even envisioned export opportunity for challenging environments, and the clinic’s pink color has received cheerful attention – bringing joy and recognizability to the service.

Continuous development – feedback drives improvement

Customer feedback plays a central role in the development of the MobiX clinic. Based on experiences and suggestions from the field, the service is continuously refined to be even more functional and user-friendly. The goal is to improve both patient experience and working conditions for healthcare professionals.

Proposed improvements include things like adjusting air conditioning based on patient preferences to enhance comfort, mapping local support services and social facilities before relocating the clinic to ensure seamless service, and updating colors and ergonomics in product development to improve usability and visual appeal. These development actions are part of Innomentarium’s ongoing service design process, where user voices guide the direction of innovation.

The clinic is also a good place to do follow-up examinations. Pictured is a Samsung V7 ultrasound machine and a Lojer lightweight examination table.

Looking ahead to year two – evolving with the people we serve

The first year of MobiX has proven that mobile imaging services can genuinely improve accessibility and patient experience. Feedback from the field has been invaluable, guiding both technical and human-centered improvements.

While strategic decisions shape the overall direction, real change happens in the everyday work of nurses and in the experiences of patients. Their insights and ideas continue to drive the concept forward – toward a more adaptable, efficient, and patient-centered service.

As MobiX enters its second year, it is ready to expand to new locations and continue its mission: making high-quality imaging services easily accessible – wherever people are.
